Joining Twice Removed Records

Great news! I have decided to join the Perth-based microlabel Twice Removed, who I will be releasing my next album through. This homey little label distribute albums to download as well as make handmade packages of each of their releases. They have already released some incredible stuff (I’m particularly a big fan of Sima Kim’s Songs and Fescal’s Moods And Views), so I recommend you check out their releases thus far!

In regards to the progress of the actual album itself, I am getting there. Things are going to take a little while, but if you keep up to date with my Soundcloud you will notice that I am regularly updating it with work-in-progress pieces that will (mostly) eventually end up on the album. I am personally hoping to work with a few more vocalists this time around, and spoken word poet Dan Donahoo (who featured on the title track of my last album) has expressed interest in working with me again. I’m really excited about this one, guys.

As always, thank you for your beautiful support, it really does mean a lot to me. Hopefully you guys will enjoy this album as much as I am enjoying making it (what a horrible cliche sentence, sorry about that).
Take care yo.
-Ben

New ambient album – Assistance required!

Hey guys!

Okay, so I don’t really like asking people for things, but I have decided to set up this funding campaign for my new album, to see if anybody would be interested in helping with the creation of this project. In exchange, people get gifts/goodies based on how much they decide to donate. Any form of help would be massively appreciated from anybody, even if you don’t donate anything. Just sharing this link around would be amazing of you.
Thank you :)

Project Updates June 2012

Okay! So I thought it was about time I post another update about what I’ve been doing lately and will be doing. Exciting times are afoot, my friends. Let’s get straight to it, shall we? ;)

In the near future:
*I have a fully finished, entirely soundscape ambient release geared to sleeping and chilling to ready to release on my word. As soon as artwork is all ready, I will probably be releasing this; perhaps in a month or two! This will also have 10 exclusive physical editions.
*I am working on an 8-bit, orchestral, acoustic album heavily re-inspired by my recent purchase of a SNES. Expect painfully happy music.
*A more acoustic-orientated album using mostly toys to write and play the music. These will be closer to songs instead of pieces of music and instrumentals like my last two releases. It will take a little longer to complete, I’m sure, but fun fun!

In the distant-ish future:
*Alongside my music, I also write in a literary sense. I am currently writing a fictional novel and, when it’s finished, I intend to release it with its own audiobook including a soundtrack. It will probably be available both physically as well as digitally, and that includes the book itself.
*I am also slowly working on a large semi-collaborative project of psychedelic folktronic ambience that takes heavy influence from Spanish, African and West Indie rhythms and instrumentation. The name of this project will be Ibotenic, and you can expect new pages and websites etc to emerge eventually, once more material has been recorded. I will be working with a series of different musicians on this project, and I would love to take it live as well with a similar collaborative vibe, but time will tell.

Okay! That’s your lot. Thank you for supporting me, as always, and don’t forget you can still purchase a CD or download my latest album here.

Thanks!
Ben

IDMforums Member Interview

I have been interviewed by NosmoKing, from the IDMforums member project which involves different members interviewing each other. This was a lot of fun and I’m honoured to have been one of the people interviewed. Thanks, Eddie!

Album four!
A release heavily inspired by fantasy and scifi concepts such as the work of Imperial Boy (Teikoku Syounen), Adam Adamowicz and Matt Rhodes.
I wanted to make this album something of a journey. I see it more of a soundtrack to a film that doesn’t exist, if that makes any sense. I really hope you guys enjoy this. Massive thank you to anyone who listens.
This album was written as a whole piece and therefore is best heard that way. Unfortunately, Bandcamp’s streaming feature adds a second of silence in between each shift into the next track, so that’s a perfect excuse to download it. ;)

Released 04 May 2012
All songs written, performed and produced by Ben Steed, except;
*’Saddest Factory’ written, performed and produced by Ben Steed and Branden Clark.
*Vocals on ‘Melancholy Skies’ performed by Nichelle Hammer.
*Vocals on ‘Summit’ written and performed by Dan Donahoo.

Mastering by Ben Steed and Rob Gilbank at PegasiaMusic
